Ways to develop self- discipline in children
Self Disciple

Self- discipline is the cornerstone of any kind of education. It would create a specific routine for children, and guide them by ushering to new horizons. Have you ever thought about the meaning of the term? What does it mean to have self- discipline? The definition is this-: Having the ability to array the prescribed tasks in an arranged order so that by doing them in chunks the enormity of the tasks will be decreased. Though this might seem like an odd definition, this is one of the ways we can define it. Students who have self- discipline supposed to be good learners with a sharp intellect.

Now let’s come to the matter. How can we cultivate self- discipline in children given that they are in their formative stages? When they are in their formative stages, whatever they do, be it the books they read or the friends they make will be having a tremendous impact on their bearings.  So this is why their guardians, parents and teachers should guide them appropriately. Now lets us think over the ways to inculcate self- discipline in children. This blog will discuss some methods and activities that will be of help in developing self- esteem.

1.            Have a fruitful discussion with children about education

The child should know why he should study. Enlighten him about the importance of studies and having a goal. For example, the dream of a child is to become a doctor, but he doesn’t know how can he reach there. You can instil some motivation by telling about the ways by which he can fulfil the dream.. When a base foundation is being made, he can easily tread on that to his destination. Earn children’s confidence by educating them about activities such as self- discipline in their lives. The conversation should be very cordial only then you can earn the confidence of children.

2.            Divine his abilities and help him in studying

Children are different, and like adults, they have different talents and abilities. Understand this while talking to them. If you can find out the talent of the child, try to guide him towards that destination.

3.            Fix a time table

This is the duty of his or her guardian. If you create a suitable timetable, the child will follow it and after some time, it will become a definite routine. Give importance to those subjects where the child struggles and help him in those subjects after some time, he will improve…

4.            If the child is too restless, use a technique such as Pomodoro

Pomodoro means tomato in Italian. If your child is too restless, you can try this method.  This technique is like this-:

A Study for 25 minute

B. take a 5 minutes break

 C. study again

This cycle continues till 4 pomodoros, and after finishing the fourth take a longer break, like 15-20 minutes, this is a very productive method as you are dividing time to chunks.

5.            Use Leisure time wisely

Let him do whatever he wants during this time. You can also make him cultivate some hobbies too, like singing, reading, writing which will give enough intellectual stimulation.

Through these techniques, it will be possible to cultivate a proper routine, and the child will start to study with passion. The only thing we have to look at is, we have to guide them appropriately as they are the upcoming generations.
